Engineering is Elementary

EiE, the school curriculum division of the Museum of Science of Boston, has expanded its award-winning engineering education program to children as young as three with the release of two new curricula: Wee Engineer, which is designed for use in preschool and pre-K programs, and EiE for Kindergarten, which is designed for use in kindergarten. The new curricula are the first of their kind to meet the specific learning needs of our youngest students.

The 2019 Massachusetts budget signed by Governor Charlie Baker on July 26 will include an earmark to provide $50,000 for educators across 22 out-of-school time programs in Everett and Cambridge with innovative curricula created by the Museum of Science, Boston to teach engineering to children as young as three.

BOSTON – The Museum of Science, Boston and Oracle are collaborating with the Orlando Science Center (OSC) to bring an award- winning STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education curriculum, EiE®, to elementary schools in the Orlando area. A $25,000 grant from Oracle will support 20 Florida elementary teachers in learning to implement the Engineering is Elementary® curriculum through a professional development workshop hosted by OSC.

BOSTON  – The National Science Foundation (NSF), in consultation with the Department of Education, NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently announced the appointment of Ioannis Miaoulis, President and Director of the Museum of Science, Boston to a new advisory panel created to encourage U.S. scientific and technological innovations in education.  Nominated by Senator Edward Markey (D-MA), Miaoulis is among 17 other national nonprofit, business, and academic leaders in the STEM education field appointed to the panel.

BOSTON – The Museum of Science, Boston will bring an award-winning STEM curriculum to elementary students in Haverhill Public Schools with support of a grant from the Natick-based software company, MathWorks. The $15,000 grant will support 15 elementary teachers from Haverhill in learning to implement the Engineering is Elementary® (EiE®) curriculum.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Museum of Science has awarded scholarships for its Engineering is Elementary (EiE ®) program to 80 elementary teachers from 21 states. The scholarship program helps teachers at high-needs schools nationwide introduce the engineering and technology components of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) to their students using the award-winning Engineering is Elementary curriculum.
